How Much AI is TOO Much AI In Blog Writing? 5 Ways to Use it Correctly

AI in blog writing

Lately, I've been facing a big dilemma.

I recently read a piece on how AI is shaping the future of content creation and have been wondering what the "correct" amount of AI is to use while writing blogs for myself.

I have always considered that AI is not the enemy and is not here to steal jobs.

Instead, AI will let us do more meaningful work while it takes care of the redundant jobs.

That said, if you ask me, I have been leveraging AI a little too much as a digital content creator and content marketer.

Am I being lazy?

Probably.

While we need to generate a lot of content quickly, we must maintain its quality. So, I asked myself, "What is the best way to use AI to increase my content writing efficiency without compromising the quality?"

So, I decided, "I will restrict the usage of AI tools to create content only for specific purposes."

Here is how I will use AI as a content marketing tool to make the most of writing quickly.

  • Use it for topical research.
  • Use it to fix transcription errors.
  • Use it to check for keywords.
  • Use it to create blog outlines as necessary.
  • Use it to summarize long, complex topics quickly.

Using AI for Topical Research and Creating Content Strategy Templates

ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, and Copy.ai are among the most affordable content-writing tools.

However, using them to write content from scratch might not be the best idea because spotting AI-written content is easy.

I have this running "joke" with my team members that any blog that starts with "In today's digital landscape" is easily identified as AI-written content. HubSpot has an entire list of AI tools for content research and blogging.

Now, there is nothing particularly wrong with AI-written content. However, it is not very readable and feels robotic. The writing lacks emotion, making it hard to resonate with. So, instead of writing content with it from scratch, I use it for topical research and content ideas.

Let's say that only 10% of ChatGPT's ideas are worth using. If you ask for a list of topics you should write on, it will give you a list in seconds. It can give you a list of thousands of blog topics within a minute! Even at a 10% hit rate, you have 100 decent topics you can build on. No decent writer in the world operates at that speed.

Using AI to Fix Transcription Errors While Writing Blogs

I love writing blog posts. LOVE it! But you know what? I like one thing even more. Speaking. So, why write when you can talk?

The average human can dictate at 150-170 words per minute, 4x faster than the average typing speed. So, if you think fast, why waste time writing when you can dictate what's in your head to your computer?

And one thing I hate? Grammar and formatting.

It's a black hole. Sucks BIG time. So, I use AI to fix those grammar and formatting errors within seconds.

You may think this is asking AI to rewrite all the content you're producing, but that's not the case.

AI is often used to shed content from the final words that I'll speak. If I were writing a 1,500-word blog, I would have dictated over 3,000 words and then used AI to format and clean it to bring it down to a 1,500-word blog limit.

This process is crucial for maintaining the quality expected in content marketing services

Some of the best AI-enabled dictation tools include:

If you don't want to pay, Google Docs and MS Word dictation work well, too!

Using AI to Proofread and Recommend Keywords

Keyword research is one of the most essential content planning steps using Semrush before writing long-form content.

Even though I have my target and semantically related keywords right before me, it is often a chore to go back to the list and add those keywords to the content after I've written it.

I am not good at switching between documents while writing my long-form content; it is time-consuming. So, when writing different pieces of content, I do not specifically focus on incorporating every single keyword in the first attempt. Instead, I let AI take care of it.

After formatting and writing the final blog, I leverage ChatGPT to go back and proofread the whole blog and give it the list of all the keywords that I want to incorporate.

Then, I ask ChatGPT to provide me with the list of keywords I have yet to incorporate into my writing. This is one of the most important ways I save time while writing a long-form piece of content.

If you want to go a step further and have access to these tools, you can also leverage the inbuilt AI functionality on Moz and Semrush for more effective keyword research.

Using AI to Create Blog Outlines Quickly

If you are familiar with content ideation and planning processes, you know that most writer's block occurs when creating a content outline.

So, while outlining, I need a quick and efficient way to ensure I've covered everything necessary in the long-form content. That's where AI tools also help a lot.

While creating the outline, all you need to do is tell the tool the following:

  • Keywords that you would like to cover in the blog and
  • Questions you'd want to answer in the blog.

Once done, you can also ask for suggestions on what else can be covered to provide the most value in the blog.

Most successful content creators often have an editorial calendar and a board where they can bounce ideas off similar great minds quickly.

Today, you can have a long discussion with an AI tool to ask for its suggestions and recommendations on how to write correctly. Your AI tool becomes your springboard for new ideas and your assistant that can easily create outlines.

Using AI to Summarize Long, Complex Topics Easily

Today, if I'm writing a blog post from scratch, I don't need to spend several hours or days reading through every single line of information available on the internet.

Researching is often one of the longest phases of writing long-form content to ensure it is extremely valuable.

Your blog should align with the business goals of your client. And even if it promotes a particular product or service, it needs to offer some information and value to the reader.

I believe blogs inherently are not very salesy but should focus on more of the informative aspects of it.

Instead of spending several hours reading through long research papers, other blogs, or case studies, I can ask AI to do that for me and summarize all the available information in a digestible format.

AI may not be able to generate new ideas or pieces of content as well as a human writer, but it can quickly summarize and analyze existing pieces.

How Are You Leveraging AI Tools for Your Content Today?

Some best practices suggest that you need to generate hundreds of blogs every month, and it does not matter whether AI is used to create those blogs to rank well on Google.

In contrast, other resources suggest that one must focus more on the quality aspect of it than the quantity. Using these tips and tricks, you can leverage AI tools to speed up their overall writing process significantly while still maintaining a good quality of writing.

Using AI tools to generate content from scratch is not unethical, but it is unproductive.

It is very easy for someone to understand that it is an AI-regurgitated piece of content that does not provide any value. And if there is one thing that Google says helps you rank, it is the helpfulness and usability of the content.

Are you sick of writing long-form content by yourself? Or do you not have the time or the experience to write helpful content that helps you rank?
